Oreo “Blizzard” — decadent treat to welcome the golden sun-drenched days

Last week was such a drag—cold, bleak and dismal. With the ghastly dust storm playing havoc with our lovely weekend plans.

Every once in a while there was a hint of balmy climate, swiftly followed by brisk air, and perfectly chilly wintry night. Oh and clouds of dust filling the air.

Some weather.
Somehow, amidst these dreary days when everything seemed a ghastly mess, there was time to catch up on the little pleasures of life—music, movies, books, indoor badminton games, and most certainly spending time with dear friends, rejoicing in the wonderful feeling that comes with it.

And while the weather continued to be awful, I stopped by the flower shop and picked some fresh cuts, instantly flooding my heart with happiness. Beautiful chrysanthemum. Light, soft, baby’s breath. And the heavily fragrant tuberose that the florist kindly gifted me. Great pops of life and color for the indoors. Don’t they look pretty?
Happily, the promise of spring is just around the corner. The bloom of a romantic season has begun to show in the sprouting plants and burst of leaves, fragrance of colorful blossoms filling the air, and the golden sun rays cuddling the otherwise chilly mornings.

Perhaps soon, within a matter of days, it will be time for flip-flops, sun and sea, sheer dresses, sparkling breeze along the water’s edge. Yes, only a matter of time before winter fades into a beautiful blur.
Now then, what could possibly be more fitting to welcome the cheery, sunshiny days, and languorous golden afternoons than this fantastic frozen treat?
Oreos with soft serve ice cream—what’s not to love!

It’s the ultimate treat—creamy dollops of vanilla ice cream blended with chunks of oreo, and dressed with cookie crumbs for a bit of chew. Kind of like the amazing oreo blizzard from Dairy Queen. Mmm. Ahhh.

My kids are really hooked up with DQ blizzard. They go gaga over this treat.

It is about time I fixed one at home I thought, and ended up with this frozen treat.
It’s rich, fatty and so so satisfying. In a good-bad way. You know what I mean?

This cheat’s recipe is ready in 5 minutes, and no matter what you do, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with this nummy treat.

Super easy and super tasty—yes, all superlatives. What’s more? Super hit with the kids!

Now, just give me 5 minutes...
Oreo “Blizzard”

Ingredients
Serves 2
Prep: 5 min

Scant ¼ cup chilled milk
500g good quality vanilla ice cream (I used London Dairy)
1 teaspoon chocolate syrup
3 frozen oreo cookies, broken into chunks to pulse into soft serve
2 frozen oreo cookies crushed into bigger chunks, for garnish
Directions

Quickly pulse milk and ice cream in a food processor or blender until soft and just combined. Add 3 crumbled oreos and pulse again to fold the cookies to the ice cream mixture. Take care not to over blend or the soft serve will easily turn into a cookie and cream shake!

Scoop into two glasses and sprinkle with remaining cookie crumbs to serve. Ta-da!

Note: Pop the blizzard into the freezer for a couple of minutes if it gets too runny. After all the original DQ blizzard is upsidedownrightthick.
And finally, I was positively thrilled to find out the results of the DMBLGiT February 2012 event. This is my second win and I thank everyone who made this happen. Thank you for stopping by, for saying hello, for the sweet notes and all the love that you bring to me. Don’t forget to click on the link and look at the stunning photos of the other winners.

  28. hey congrats on the DMBLGIT win, ur pic totally deserved to win :) the blizzard reminded me of this oreo thick shake we used to hog in the US at this teeny tiny restaurant chain called 'which-which', so delecious! it was so thick that no matter how hard we tried the shake refused to come up the straw! loaded with calories i know, but like u said once in a while we have to give in to temptation esp when its this good :) i can never say no to oreo
