Pomegranate Orange Crush — juicy joy to help fight aging

Warm, breezy afternoons. Golden sunlight. Drinks and laughter. Sweet melody of wind chimes. Eternal optimism of spring showers and lovely rain speckled windows.

Ha, the promise of springtime.

After the winter repose, sprightly spring brings in a flurry of activities.
Last weekend was filled with positive energy, books and music, romantic roses, family and friends, a late afternoon picnic in the hillock of Aspire zone, and a lovely stroll along the picturesque garden, wood-chipped track and delightful lake in the park.

Must confess, I enjoyed the girly gossip with my sisters-in-law as much as the wind tousled hair and scenic landscape. And most of all the beautiful things, I was really drawn to the vision of the burning sun sinking below the horizon to mark the end of a beautiful day.
And yet, despite all the fleeting feeling of goodness, it’s difficult not to be put down by the challenges I’ve been facing lately. Blogger had been acting weird, and I’m technically, er, frustrated. This’s the reason why I skipped a post last week. The reason why I’ve been staying away from the wonderful blogosphere and your lovely blog sites. Thankfully, things seem to be back to some semblance of order now, and I popped in to say hello.

There’s nothing like starting your day with fresh, healthy food. Like this raw, freshly-pressed, antioxidant rich juice. A liquid refreshment to toast the new season.
I’ve been too much into juices and smoothies lately. Each time I made a drink, I couldn’t help taking new pictures to give life to my old recipes. Like this and this.

Nourishing flavors of fresh pomegranate mingled with zesty orange gives this glass of vibrant drink a refreshing and perfect pick-me-up taste.
Pom is touted for its health benefits. It’s said that pomegranate juice has three times more antioxidants than green tea or red wine. Like watermelon, it’s called “natural Viagra”. So you may want to consider putting down that cup of tea or coffee, and going for a tall glass of this antioxidant rich sip. Moreover, pomegranate is a natural sweetener, so no need to spike up the calorie content by adding extra sugar in your drink.

And yet, as in most cases, there’s the good, the bad and the bottom line. See, juicing has its disadvantages. It’s higher on calories and natural sugar, plus lower on fiber when compared to eating a whole fruit or vegetable. Moderation is the key—at the same time, it’s definitely healthier to go for a glass of juice instead of reaching for a mug of coffee or a bottle of pop. And if you are not the person who enjoys eating whole fruits and veggies, then juicing is a fun way to include them in your diet.
If you are put off by the hassle of prying arils from fresh pomegranate, there are two options: you can either juice pom in citrus juicer just like oranges, or work with the fruit in a bowl of cold water—the arils sink and the pith floats, making it much easier to separate them. Just be careful, the bloody red juice can stain your clothing.

Juice away and fill your body with potent antioxidants in one tall glass of bliss, a.m. or p.m.!

Pomegranate Orange Crush

Ingredients

Serves 2
Prep: 10 min

1 ½ cups fresh pomegranate arils
2 seedless oranges
slice of orange, and pom arils, for garnish
Directions

Peel the oranges, cut into chunks and feed half of them through a juicer, followed by pomegranate arils, then the remaining oranges; stir to combine. Serve immediately garnished with fresh pom arils, and orange slices. Serve with ice, if desired.

Alternatively, cut the oranges and pom into half and juice using a citrus juicer. Stain with a mesh strainer, and pour into glasses.
And now I’m jonesing for some juice again. But this time I’ll go try a whole new exotic blend.
